Bio – Daughters of Penelope CareerI was born in Athens, Greece. I came to the United States in 1963 and received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Education, in 1972. I received my Master's Degree in Education in 1984. I taught elementary education in MA, for 24 years. I have been a member of the NEA, EAW, FTA, TESOL, and I am also certified in Bilingual Education. I taught Greek and English in the public school system. I was appointed Bilingual Curriculum Coordinator for all languages in the city of Worcester, MA. I joined the Daughters of Penelope in 1976. My first chapter was #191, in Clinton, MA, District 8, where I was a very active member. I served as Vice-President, President and I was chairman of many committees including hosting Conventions. I served on the District Lodge as Marshall, Secretary and District Governor from 1983 to 1986. During that time, I was teaching and I was also part owner of a restaurant where I kept the books, payroll, taxes and all records for the business. In 1988, I transferred to Chapter #310, in Lawrence, MA. Once again I became very involved in the chapter. I served as President for 3 terms, and later as secretary. I served and chaired many committees including hosting a convention. During those years I was involved with and served as the chapter scholarship chairperson. I was selected, Chapter Penelope of the Year and Bay District #8 Penelope of the Year recipient in 1997. I served on the Parish Council of St. Constantine and Helen and also taught Greek School. I was also a member of the choir. During this time I was once again part owner of a restaurant where I once again held the books, taxes, and payroll. I moved to Florida in 1997 and obtained a real estate broker's license and later went back to teaching while still holding an active broker's license. I have been a 4th and 5th grade teacher for the past fourteen years. During these years, I designed and manage my own school website and selected a team leader for two years. I transferred to St. Petersburg, Chapter #210, Citrus District 2, in 1997. I served as President for 3 terms. Elected District Secretary and then District Governor from 2003-04 and 2004-05. I helped reactivate the MAIDS of Athena in St. Petersburg. I was honored with Chapter Penelope of the year in 2002 and in 2006. We hosted a District Convention and I served as Convention Treasurer at that time. I have been the Scholarship chairperson since 2000. I have served as District Convention chairperson and secretary. Recently, I was instrumental in establishing the St. Petersburg AHEPA/Daughters of Penelope Scholarship Foundation and served as a Chairperson the past year. I served as:
The Daughters of Penelope have been a constant in my life. I believe in the values and objectives of our order, we are here to promote Hellenism, Education, Civic Responsibility, Family and Individual Excellence. I have been a proud member of our organization for the past 36 years. Last year I chose the theme, "You are the Heartbeat of the Daughters of Penelope" because of the strength and passion of each one of our member. | ||||
